Bipartisan Public Support Emerges for Housing Affordability Measures and Corporate Ownership Limits
New polling data from the University of Maryland reveals strong bipartisan support among Americans for various measures aimed at addressing the housing shortage and making housing more affordable. The surveys, conducted nationally and in competitive states and congressional districts, show that both Democrats and Republicans agree on the need for government intervention. Specifically, there is widespread support for providing tax incentives to builders for constructing affordable housing (88% of Democrats, 80% of Republicans nationally), allocating $25 billion to build housing for low- and middle-income families (84% of Democrats, 63% of Republicans nationally), and providing $40 billion for low- and very low-income housing (86% of Democrats, 64% of Republicans nationally).
