Towson University Appoints Nora Demleitner to Lead New Civics Center
Towson University has announced the appointment of Nora Demleitner, former president of St. John's College, as the inaugural executive director of the Ben and Myrna Cardin Center for Civic Engagement and Discourse. Demleitner, who stepped down from St. John's College a little over a year ago, will assume her new role on September 8. The center, established a year ago, aims to foster civil discourse and teach students, faculty, public leaders, and the community the essential habits for a functioning democracy, such as listening, learning, questioning, debating, serving, and leading. This initiative comes at a time when civic knowledge is reportedly declining across the country. The center's mission is to develop student habits that strengthen democracy, with a focus on bipartisan engagement and finding solutions to move the country forward.
