According to Clément Delangue, CEO of Hugging Face, Chinese AI models are increasingly competitive, particularly in open models. Despite challenges in accessing cutting-edge AI compute, which the U.S. dominates, Chinese models are gaining traction globally. This development has sparked discussions about the U.S.'s continued dominance in AI, given its advantages in compute capabilities and private capital. The U.S. has imposed export controls to limit China's access to advanced chips, which has been a significant hurdle for Chinese AI firms.
