Heat Dome to Intensify in Mississippi Valley and East as West Cools Down
A significant shift in weather patterns is expected across the United States, with a heat dome intensifying in the Mississippi Valley and eastern regions while the western U.S. experiences a cooldown. The jet stream will dip southward over the West this weekend, leading to a drop in temperatures. Cities like Salt Lake City and Las Vegas will see highs decrease by 10-20°F (5-11°C). Meanwhile, the heat dome will move eastward, bringing temperatures well into the 90s°F (32-37°C) to cities such as Nashville, St. Louis, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Washington, D.C., starting this weekend and continuing into early September. Thunderstorms and showers will be sparse within the heat dome, but its northern rim will be active with storms stretching from the northern Plains to the Northeast. Tropical moisture may also bring drenching rains to desert areas in the West.
