UNESCO Expands Korean Tidal Flats World Heritage Site, Enhancing Biodiversity Conservation
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has approved the expansion of the 'Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats' site, adding four new tidal flats in South Korea's Chungcheongnam-do and Jeollanam-do provinces. This decision, made during the annual session in Busan, increases the site to include nine local governments and six components. The expansion recognizes the tidal flats' biodiversity and their role in conserving migratory waterbirds and marine species. The newly included areas are home to 2,454 species of flora and fauna, highlighting their ecological significance.
