South Korea's Tourism Surplus Reaches Record High Post-Pandemic
South Korea's tourism sector has achieved a record surplus since the COVID-19 pandemic, with a travel account surplus of $596.6 million in June. This marks a significant turnaround from a deficit of $846.8 million in the same month the previous year. The Korea Tourism Organization attributes this success to the global popularity of South Korean pop culture, including K-pop and cuisine. The total revenue from the tourism sector in June was $2.78 billion, with foreign tourists spending an average of $1,397 per person. The tourism balance had been in deficit for 72 consecutive months since March 2020 but turned positive in March this year.
