Congressman Richard Neal Maintains Significant Financial Advantage in Massachusetts Primary Race
Congressman Richard Neal has demonstrated a substantial financial lead over his challenger, high school teacher Jeromie Whalen, in the Democratic primary for Massachusetts' 1st Congressional District. According to second-quarter filings, Neal raised $447,705 compared to Whalen's $105,257. Neal also outspent Whalen, disbursing $543,490 against Whalen's $69,773. As of the end of June, Neal's campaign had $4,052,063 on hand, while Whalen had $65,509. A significant portion of Neal's second-quarter funds, approximately $220,500, came from Political Action Committees (PACs), many of which are corporate, though some are union-affiliated or represent specific political interests like J Street. Whalen's fundraising, in contrast, was almost entirely from individual donors. Both candidates have begun airing advertisements on television and radio, with Neal's spending significantly higher and extending to markets outside the immediate district, such as Albany, New York.
