Florida to Test Electric Air Taxis by 2026, Aiming to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the state will begin testing electric air taxis, known as eVTOLs, by the end of 2026. The testing will take place at the SunTrax facility in Auburndale, which is equipped with vertiports for these aircraft. eVTOLs are designed to take off and land vertically, offering a potential alternative to traditional road traffic. The initiative aims to provide a new mode of transportation between major cities like Tampa and Orlando, potentially easing congestion on Interstate 4. The Federal Aviation Administration has selected Florida to participate in an Advanced Air Mobility integration pilot program, which will explore the integration of this technology into everyday transportation systems.
