Governor Lee Grants Clemency to 34 Individuals in Tennessee
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced executive clemency decisions for 34 individuals. These decisions were made after a thorough review of each case, with recommendations from the Tennessee Board of Parole. The clemency grants include two types: pardons and commutations. Pardons are official statements of forgiveness given to individuals who have completed their prison sentences and are no longer incarcerated. Commutations involve adjusting an individual's sentence, specifically to expedite parole based on the unique merits and track record of success of the individual. Governor Lee emphasized that each case was unique and warranted consideration. Individuals who applied for clemency but were not included in this round remain eligible for future consideration. Exoneration, another form of executive clemency, was not granted in this set of decisions.
