Study Reveals Daily Multivitamins Do Not Extend Lifespan Among U.S. Adults
A comprehensive study involving over 390,000 U.S. adults has found that daily multivitamin use does not extend lifespan or significantly reduce the risk of death from major diseases such as cancer, heart disease, or stroke. Conducted by researchers at the National Cancer Institute and published in JAMA Network Open, the study tracked participants for more than 20 years. It revealed that multivitamin users had a slightly higher risk of death in the early years of follow-up, which researchers attribute to underlying differences rather than a direct effect of the vitamins. The study highlights that while multivitamins are popular, they do not replace the benefits of a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains.
