Spirit Airlines Shutdown Leaves LaGuardia's Historic Terminal Deserted
The sudden shutdown of Spirit Airlines has left LaGuardia Airport's Marine Air Terminal deserted. Spirit Airlines, which occupied all six gates of the terminal, announced an 'orderly wind-down' over the weekend, leading to the cancellation of all flights and customer services. The terminal, a historic site dating back to 1940, is now largely inactive, with concession stands and customer service desks closed. The Transportation Security Administration checkpoints are also closed due to the absence of ticketed passengers. The only operational part of the terminal is a lounge for Modern Aviation, a private and charter plane service. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which manages the airport, is focusing on maintaining operational continuity and supporting passengers during this transition.
