Jessica Morgan Appointed as New Director of Tate, Succeeding Maria Balshaw
Jessica Morgan, currently the director of the Dia Art Foundation in New York, has been appointed as the new director of Tate, a prestigious position in the art world. She will take over from Maria Balshaw, who stepped down last year. Morgan is set to begin her role in January, overseeing Tate Britain, Tate Modern, and other sites in Liverpool and St Ives. Her appointment follows a challenging period for Tate, marked by industrial action, staff cuts, and a decline in visitor numbers. Morgan has been recognized for her efforts in diversifying the collection at Dia, significantly increasing the representation of women artists. Her previous roles include curatorial positions at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Morgan's appointment has been praised by notable figures in the art community, including Turner Prize winner Steve McQueen.
