South Carolina Begins $430 Million I-95 Bridge Replacement Project
South Carolina has commenced a major infrastructure project to replace the aging Interstate 95 bridges over Lake Marion. The project, valued at nearly $430 million, is partially funded by a $175 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The replacement of the nearly 60-year-old bridges is expected to take about 3.5 years, with completion anticipated by late 2030. The project includes the addition of a walking and bicycle path and aims to improve traffic flow and connectivity along a critical route used by approximately 40,000 vehicles daily. The bridges also serve as a major hurricane evacuation route.
