Vermont Towns Implement Varied Regulations on Short-Term Rentals
Vermont towns are adopting diverse approaches to regulate short-term rentals, creating a patchwork of policies across the state. Some towns, like Woodstock, have imposed caps on the number of short-term rentals, while others, such as Ludlow, are considering light regulations. The state’s largest city, Burlington, limits most short-term rentals to owner-occupied properties. These measures are in response to the growing impact of short-term rentals on local housing markets, particularly in tourism-dependent areas where the concentration of such rentals can exceed 20%. The lack of statewide regulations has left municipalities to devise their own solutions.
