Smithsonian Institution Closes Several Museums Due to Mechanical Issues

The affected museums include the National Museum of the American Indian, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, National Museum of Asian Art, National Museum of African Art, the Smithsonian Castle, Arts and Industries Building, and the S. Dillon Ripley Center. The Smithsonian has not disclosed the specific nature of the mechanical problem or the expected duration of the closures. Visitors are advised to check the Smithsonian's website for updates. Meanwhile, other Smithsonian museums in the D.C. area remain open and are operating on their regular schedules.
