FBI Arrests Florida Man for Using Steam Games to Hack Cryptocurrency Wallets
The FBI has arrested Zyaire Wilkins, a 21-year-old Florida resident, for allegedly using malware-laden video games on the Steam platform to hack into victims' computers and steal cryptocurrency. Over the past two years, Wilkins and unnamed co-conspirators reportedly published several games, including BlockBlasters and PirateFi, which contained malware designed to infect computers, steal passwords, and drain crypto wallets. The FBI claims that around 8,000 victims were affected, with at least $220,000 worth of cryptocurrency stolen from approximately 80 wallets. The games were marketed on platforms like Discord, LinkedIn, and Telegram. The FBI's investigation led to the identification of a specific crypto account used in the scheme, which was traced back to Wilkins through gift card purchases linked to his Uber Eats account.
