Low-Energy Diet and Exercise Program Reverses Early Onset Type 2 Diabetes in Half of Participants
A new study has demonstrated that a combination of a low-energy diet and structured exercise can reverse early onset Type 2 diabetes in approximately half of the participants. The research, conducted at three centers in England and Canada, focused on adults aged 18 to 45 who had early onset Type 2 diabetes and obesity but were not using insulin therapy. A total of 96 participants were divided into two groups: one receiving usual care and the other engaging in an intervention program. The intervention group followed a strict diet of 800-900 calories per day, consisting of 30% protein, 50% carbohydrates, and 20% fat, initially using meal replacements and later incorporating regular foods.
