Connecticut Crime Rates Reach Five-Year Low Amidst National Trend
Connecticut has reported its lowest crime rates in five years, with 22,635 crimes recorded in the first quarter of 2026, according to the state's Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. This decline is part of a broader national trend of reduced crime, as noted by the FBI's Crime Data Explorer. The report highlights a 17% decrease in property crimes and a 15% reduction in crimes against persons compared to the same period in 2025. However, there were increases in specific offenses, such as a 5% rise in motor vehicle parts theft and an 8% increase in driving under the influence cases. The report excludes unreported or unfounded crimes and those not meeting FBI audit standards.
