The family of Yves Sakila is seeking answers after his body was mistakenly returned to Ireland instead of being repatriated to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) for burial. Yves Sakila, who died following an alleged shoplifting incident in Dublin, was supposed to be buried in DR Congo where his mother and uncle were waiting. However, due to a breakdown in communication, his remains were returned to Dublin City Mortuary. The family had completed all necessary arrangements and paperwork for the repatriation, but the process was halted in Istanbul. The family blames the Congolese ambassador to the UK for the mishap, as they had paid for the funeral home and flight in advance. The situation has left the family devastated, with calls for accountability from the Congolese authorities.
