Nestlé to Close Hungarian Chocolate Factory Amid Declining Seasonal Demand
Nestlé has announced the closure of its Diősgyőr factory in Hungary by the end of 2026 due to a decline in demand for seasonal confectionery products. The factory, which produces hollow chocolate figures for brands like Smarties and KitKat, contributes less than 3% to Nestlé Hungary's revenue. The company is seeking a buyer to continue confectionery production at the site. This decision is part of a broader trend among food manufacturers in Europe to reassess operations in response to changing consumer preferences and rising costs.
