Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have utilized artificial intelligence to analyze over 400,000 Reddit posts, uncovering potential side effects of GLP-1 drugs, such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, which are commonly used for weight loss and diabetes management. The study, published in Nature Health, highlights symptoms that may not be fully documented in clinical trials, including reproductive issues like irregular menstrual cycles and temperature-related effects such as chills and hot flashes. The research points to the value of social media in providing early insights into drug safety, as patients share experiences that may not be captured in traditional clinical settings.
