Great Britain Wind Farms Achieve Record Output in Early 2026
Wind power generation in Great Britain reached unprecedented levels during the first quarter of 2026, producing nearly 30 Terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity. According to Montel EnAppSys, this surge was driven by storms Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra, which significantly boosted wind output. The total renewable energy generation for this period was 40.3 TWh, marking a 20% increase from the same period in 2025. This rise in wind energy has led to a reduction in gas-powered generation by 16% compared to the previous year. However, the system faced challenges with curtailment, where 3.6 TWh of potential wind energy was not utilized due to transmission constraints.
