The Office of Emergency Management (A/OEM) within the Department of State is intensifying its efforts to bolster national security through enhanced IT infrastructure. This initiative is part of the Department's responsibilities under Presidential Policy Directive 40 (PPD-40), which mandates a comprehensive national continuity policy. The A/OEM is tasked with developing emergency and continuity plans to ensure readiness against threats such as natural disasters, military and terrorist attacks, and technological emergencies.
