UN Report Details Foreign Networks Fueling Sudan War, Calls for Expanded Arms Embargo
A new report by independent UN human rights investigators reveals that foreign networks are significantly fueling the ongoing conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan documented the involvement of transnational entities in recruiting, training, and deploying foreign personnel to support the RSF. These networks also facilitate the transfer of weapons, ammunition, military technology, and provide logistical support. The report specifically identified individuals and entities operating from, registered in, or linked to the United Arab Emirates as playing a significant role in these networks, alongside companies in Colombia and Chad. It also found reasonable grounds to believe that the SAF used foreign-supplied drones in operations that harmed civilians.
