11th Circuit Remands Georgia Redistricting Case to Lower Court Following Supreme Court Voting Rights Ruling
The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has remanded the redistricting dispute over Georgia’s congressional maps back to a lower court. This decision comes in light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling in *Louisiana v. Callais*, which significantly narrowed how redistricting maps can address racial discrimination. The Supreme Court's 6-3 decision in *Callais* held that Louisiana's second majority-Black congressional district should not have been created based on race, deeming it an unconstitutional gerrymander. Previously, a Georgia judge had ordered the creation of two new majority-Black Senate districts and three additional majority-Black House districts to remedy vote dilution in the metro Atlanta area, striking down congressional and legislative maps from late 2023.
