Former Laboratory Beagle Finds New Home in Gainesville After Years at Wisconsin Research Facility

Princess Peach Hope Grace Dodd, a former laboratory beagle identified as 'CTU9,' has found a new home in Gainesville, Florida, after spending nearly seven years at a research breeding facility in Wisconsin. She was removed from the facility in May and arrived in Gainesville in June. Upon her arrival, Peach exhibited several medical issues attributed to her previous living conditions, including the need for dental surgery, removal of masses, and treatment for infections and skin problems. She is currently adapting to life as a family pet, learning to play, build trust with people, and interact with other animals. Peach is also scheduled to appear at a local solidarity event in Gainesville on September 26, which is connected to the March to Abolish Animal Testing.

Over 2,000 beagles were moved from Ridglan Farms between May and August. Emily Anderson, co-founder of Valley Cats Rescue, highlighted the reunion as a testament to the collective efforts of countless individuals who advocated for the dogs' placement in loving homes. U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan and animal-rights attorney Wayne Hsiung also attended, with Hsiung reflecting on the significant community support that ultimately ensured the dogs' release.

The Aspen-FACE experiment exposed forest plots containing aspen, birch, and maple trees to controlled levels of CO₂ and O₃ under open-air conditions. The study, published in *Global Change Biology*, found that elevated CO₂ increased cumulative net primary productivity by 39% and total ecosystem carbon by 11%. Conversely, elevated ozone reduced productivity by 10% and total ecosystem carbon by 9%. The interaction between the two gases showed opposing effects, with CO₂ stimulating growth and ozone limiting it.
