America's 'Sickest Day' Linked to Late August Weather Patterns
According to an analysis by Flamingo, August 24 has been identified as the most common day for U.S. employees to call in sick over the past five years. While February typically sees the highest number of sick days due to flu season, the late-August date stands out for other reasons. Weather patterns during this time play a significant role, as much of the northern U.S. experiences some of the most pleasant conditions of the year. Average high temperatures in major Northeast and Midwest cities hover in the low 80s°F (27°C), with nighttime lows in the mid-60s°F (18°C). This period also coincides with the end of summer break for many families, creating a perfect storm of favorable weather and last-minute vacation opportunities before school resumes.
