Study Finds Midlife Fitness Linked to Longer, Healthier Lives
A recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology highlights the benefits of maintaining aerobic fitness during middle age. The research, involving nearly 25,000 men and women, indicates that individuals who are fit in their 40s and 50s tend to live longer and healthier lives. The study found that those with higher fitness levels in midlife experienced a 2 to 3 percent improvement in both lifespan and health span, equating to an additional one and a half to two years of healthy living. The research underscores the importance of aerobic fitness in delaying the onset of major illnesses and reducing the number of chronic conditions developed in later life.
