Pilkington UK Achieves 15,000 Tonne Carbon Reduction in First Year of New Glass Production Line
Pilkington UK, a part of the NSG Group, has announced a significant environmental achievement, saving 15,000 tonnes of CO2e in the first year of operation of its new rolled glass line at Greengate Works in St Helens. This carbon reduction is equivalent to removing over 8,800 cars from the road annually. The saving was realized by consolidating both rolled and float glass manufacturing into a single furnace, following the closure of the Watson Street Works. This initiative is part of a multi-million-pound investment aimed at safeguarding the future of rolled texture glass manufacturing in the UK while substantially reducing its carbon footprint. The company's broader sustainability commitments include a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2018 levels and achieving net zero by 2050. The project received £3.7 million in funding from the UK government’s Industrial Energy Transformation Fund.
