Tropical Storm Fausto Forms Off Mexico's Pacific Coast, Potential Hurricane Development Expected
Tropical Storm Fausto has formed well off the southwest Pacific coast of Mexico, emerging from a tropical depression approximately 750 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reports that Fausto is expected to undergo steady or rapid strengthening, potentially becoming a hurricane by Monday night. The storm currently has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is moving west-northwest at 13 mph. No coastal watches or warnings are in effect at this time. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Elida, also in the eastern Pacific, is weakening and is expected to become a remnant low within a few days. Additionally, a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico, south of the Florida Panhandle, is being monitored for potential strengthening into a tropical storm.
