Suffolk Wildfire Near Sizewell Nuclear Plant Stabilizes After 24 Hours
A large wildfire near the Sizewell nuclear power station in Suffolk has been burning for over 24 hours but is now stabilizing, according to fire crews. The blaze, which started on Wednesday evening, has spread across 150 hectares in Dunwich Heath, prompting evacuations of nearby residents. More than 100 firefighters are involved in tackling the fire, using helicopters to drop seawater and monitoring hotspots. The fire is located a few miles from Sizewell B nuclear power station and the construction site for Sizewell C, but there is no immediate concern about the fire affecting the nuclear facilities. The energy supplier EDF has stated that operations at Sizewell B are not impacted, and emergency plans are in place.
