Ethiopia's Green Legacy Initiative Gains International Recognition as COP32 Host
Ethiopia has been endorsed by the African Group of Negotiators to host the COP32 climate summit in 2027, following its successful Green Legacy Initiative. This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, aims to combat deforestation and promote reforestation across the country. Since its inception in 2019, Ethiopia has planted approximately 48 billion seedlings, significantly increasing its forest cover. The initiative has not only improved the country's environmental landscape but also positioned Ethiopia as a leader in African climate diplomacy. The endorsement came during the COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil, where Ethiopia was chosen over Nigeria to host the future conference.
