Vehicle Strikes Revelers at Lao New Year Parade in Louisiana, Injuring Several
During a Lao New Year celebration in rural Louisiana, a vehicle struck several parade-goers, resulting in injuries to approximately 15 individuals. The incident occurred on Saturday in the towns of Broussard and New Iberia. The driver, a 57-year-old resident of Jeanerette, was arrested and charged with impaired driving. Authorities, including the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, have stated that the act does not appear to be intentional. Emergency services, including Acadian Ambulance, responded promptly, deploying 10 ambulances and a helicopter to assist the injured. Two individuals were airlifted for medical treatment. The parade is part of a larger three-day celebration in the Lanxang Village, a Laotian community near New Iberia, featuring cultural activities and attracting thousands of attendees annually.
