Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Commends Elderly Woman for Outsmarting Scammers
In Rome, Italy, an 88-year-old woman was targeted by a telephone scam involving a fake police officer who attempted to convince her to hand over her valuables under the pretense of a robbery involving her daughter. The woman realized the call was a scam and collaborated with real police officers to set up a sting operation, leading to the arrest of a 20-year-old woman from Naples. The arrest was broadcast live, and the young woman was sentenced to one year and four months in prison for aggravated fraud against the elderly. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the elderly woman for her alertness and cooperation with the police, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against scams targeting vulnerable individuals.
