France to Implement Ban on Unsolicited Telemarketing Calls
Starting August 11, France will enforce a new law banning unsolicited telemarketing calls, a move aimed at protecting consumers from intrusive commercial solicitations and fraudulent practices. The law, supported by President Emmanuel Macron's government, requires companies to obtain prior consent from consumers before making sales calls. Exceptions are made for existing customer relationships and ongoing contracts. This legislation responds to widespread consumer complaints about nuisance calls, with authorities estimating that three-quarters of French citizens receive at least one unsolicited call weekly. Violators face significant fines, with individuals and companies subject to penalties of up to 75,000 and 375,000 euros per call, respectively.
