Upcoming Social Security COLA May Fall Short of Beneficiaries' Expectations
The Senior Citizens League has projected a 3.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security beneficiaries in 2027, a notable increase from the 2.8% adjustment in 2026. Despite this above-average increase, the adjustment may not significantly improve the financial situation of many seniors. The average monthly retirement benefit, currently at $2,084, would increase by approximately $79, while spousal beneficiaries would see a smaller increase of $37. Rising living costs have outpaced these adjustments, leaving many seniors reliant on additional income sources to cover expenses.
