Historic Dragon Coaster at Playland Park Damaged by Electrical Fire
A historic roller coaster, the Dragon Coaster, located at Playland Park in Westchester County, New York, sustained damage from an electrical fire over the weekend. The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. on Saturday at the waterfront, county-owned park, which was already closed for the season. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins confirmed that no one was injured in the blaze, and authorities stated the damage was minimal. The Dragon Coaster, one of the oldest wooden coasters in the United States, has been a central attraction at the park for 97 years. It was notably featured in the Tom Hanks film 'Big' and Mariah Carey's 1995 music video 'Fantasy.' The coaster had recently undergone renovations over the winter. The exact cause of the electrical fire is currently under investigation by officials.
