Unruly Passenger Duct-Taped on American Airlines Flight, Faces Charges
Arthur Layne Lundeen, a 67-year-old resident of Tucson, Arizona, was arrested after allegedly becoming violent on American Airlines Flight 618 from Dallas to Newark. The incident led to other passengers restraining him with duct tape and zip ties. The flight was diverted to Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport on Thursday night. Lundeen reportedly became increasingly belligerent, using vulgar language and racial slurs. Passengers Juan Mejia, a former law enforcement officer, and Richard Olenick intervened when the situation escalated to physical assault. Lundeen was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct in Maryland. The FBI is conducting interviews to gather facts and will consult with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland regarding potential federal charges. His former employer, Long Realty Company, promptly ended its affiliation with him upon learning of the incident.
