Kansas City to Fund Emergency Repairs for Neglected Apartment Complex
Kansas City has approved an ordinance to fund emergency repairs at the North Lawn Apartments complex, which has been neglected by its landlord, Yisroel Levovitz. The complex, located in the Indian Mound neighborhood, has been without electricity for over a month, leaving tenants in hazardous living conditions. The city will use its Housing Trust Fund to cover repair costs and will charge the landlord through special tax assessments. The ordinance, sponsored by council member Johnathan Duncan, aims to hold negligent landlords accountable and improve living conditions for tenants. The city is also exploring options to support the neighborhood association in taking control of the property.
