Whistleblowers revealed that Infantino was eyeing a $30 million salary plus bonuses from the project, which aimed to create a new commercial entity for the World Cup. Despite FIFA being a non-profit organization, Infantino's plan was seen as a move to personally enrich himself and consolidate power. The plan's collapse has led to calls for leadership changes within FIFA, particularly from UEFA.
