Argentina Solar Train Showcases Sustainable Tourism in UNESCO Andean Valley
The Argentina Solar Train, known as Tren Solar de la Quebrada, is transforming sustainable tourism in the UNESCO-recognized Andean Valley of Quebrada de Humahuaca. This project provides cleaner transportation options to access the region's cultures and landscapes, improving connectivity. The two-car train operates using advanced battery-electric technology, powered by six lithium batteries that store electricity generated from solar energy produced in Jujuy. It also incorporates regenerative braking technology, which converts movement energy into electricity during braking, further enhancing energy efficiency. The train offers a range of approximately 100 to 120 kilometers, more than double its previous operating distance, and has already served over 90,000 passengers since its launch in 2024.
