El Salvador's AI Integration in Telemedicine and Education Highlights Global Policy Debates
El Salvador is actively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into various sectors, including telemedicine and education, as part of its broader digital transformation agenda. The country has launched initiatives such as the 'Dr. SV' telemedicine platform, which has facilitated 1.6 million consultations in six months, and the distribution of over 1.2 million laptops and tablets to students. These efforts are supported by a national AI governance framework and a new National AI Agency. The developments were discussed at a global dialogue on AI governance, where international cooperation and equitable access to AI tools were emphasized. Participants highlighted the need for strong institutions and trusted data systems to bridge the AI divide.
