Icelandair Pilot Under Investigation for Low-Altitude Flight Over Westman Islands
An Icelandair pilot is facing an investigation after conducting a low-altitude flyover of the Westman Islands, which was captured on video. The incident involved a passenger aircraft descending below standard limits during a domestic approach. The flight, originally traveling from Frankfurt to Keflavík International Airport, deviated from its route after the captain requested a change, which was approved by Isavia ANS. The captain, marking 40 years of service, reportedly has ties to the islands. Icelandair confirmed that the maneuver was unauthorized by the company's management and has reported the matter to the police. The Icelandic Transport Authority has also opened a formal inquiry.
