Floodwaters Trap Drivers in Wisconsin Amid Midwest Storm Recovery
Floodwaters from record rainfall have inundated streets in Wisconsin, trapping drivers and leading to highway closures. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has urged residents to avoid driving in southeast Wisconsin due to the hazardous conditions. Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency following storms that began on Monday, bringing strong winds, hail, and heavy rain. At least three tornadoes have been confirmed, and more severe weather is anticipated. Meanwhile, Michigan is recovering from overnight storms that caused significant damage, including structural damage to schools and ice arenas in Ann Arbor. The storms also uprooted trees and led to power outages, affecting thousands of residents. In northern Michigan, a power outage resulted in the loss of 1,750 steelhead trout at a state facility. The Wisconsin River near Portage has risen to nearly 19 feet, surpassing flood stage, and is expected to rise further.
