Colorado Tops U.S. News World Report's 2026 Education Rankings
Colorado has been ranked as the top state for education in the 2026 Best States rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The state achieved high marks in both higher education and preschool through 12th grade education, placing third and ninth respectively. Colorado's success in higher education is attributed to its high graduation rates from two- and four-year colleges, a significant share of residents holding college degrees, and relatively low tuition costs. In preschool through 12th grade education, the state excelled in reading comprehension scores for eighth graders and preschool enrollment rates, bolstered by its Universal Preschool Program. Despite these achievements, Colorado ranked 17th overall in the Best States rankings, with Utah taking the top spot.
