Skywatchers in North America Prepare for August's Celestial Double Feature
On August 12, 2026, skywatchers in northeastern North America will have the opportunity to witness a rare celestial event: a partial solar eclipse followed by the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. The eclipse, part of a total solar eclipse visible in parts of Europe, will occur in the afternoon, while the meteor shower will be visible under dark skies later that night. This event provides an ideal opportunity for an overnight astronomy road trip, with recommended locations including national parks and dark-sky preserves across the U.S. and Canada.
