American Evacuated from Antarctica in Rare Midwinter Rescue
An American was evacuated from the U.S. McMurdo Station in Antarctica to a hospital in Christchurch, New Zealand, in a rare midwinter rescue operation. The mission, conducted by an Australian air crew using an Airbus A319 Long Range aircraft, faced extreme conditions with temperatures as low as minus 43 C. The patient was in serious condition upon arrival at the hospital.
