Erratic Weather Threatens Global Coffee Production
Coffee production worldwide is facing increasing challenges due to erratic weather patterns, according to a report by BeverageDaily.com. Coffee, particularly the arabica species, is highly sensitive to environmental changes, with temperatures above 86°F (30°C) proving harmful. Between 2021 and 2025, key coffee-producing countries such as Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Ethiopia, and Indonesia experienced an average of 57 additional days of coffee-damaging heat annually. Beyond heat, extreme weather events like hailstorms and floods have disrupted plantations, as seen in Brazil and Vietnam. These unpredictable conditions are impacting soil health, water availability, and crop yields, creating financial strain for farmers. The report highlights the growing need for climate adaptation measures in the coffee industry to ensure sustainability and resilience.
