New York State Sees Decline in Homelessness, Rise Outside NYC
According to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, New York State has experienced a decline in its homeless population over the past year, with a significant reduction in New York City. However, areas outside the city have seen sharp increases in homelessness. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's data indicates an overall drop of nearly eight percent in the state's homeless population from January 2024 to January 2025. Despite this, the issue remains widespread, particularly affecting children, who make up a significant portion of the homeless population.
