California Governor Newsom Expands State Service Corps to 50,000 Members, Launches Alumni Network
Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the expansion of California Volunteers and AmeriCorps California under the California Service Corps umbrella, making it the nation's largest state-level service force. Since 2019, 50,000 members have been sworn into the program, which now encompasses four paid initiatives: #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, California Climate Action Corps, and Youth Service Corps. These programs offer paid opportunities for Californians to serve their communities in various critical areas, including emergency response, addressing food insecurity, tutoring and mentoring students, and climate action. Members gain hands-on experience, leadership skills, and financial support for their education or career development. Governor Newsom also launched the California Service Corps Alumni Network to support employment pathways for those who have completed their service.
